Does the idea of what you want to achieve in life ever crosses your mind? It is always wise to know what you want in life. It enables you to determine where you want to be in future.
When considering what you want in life, you should ask yourself this questions:
- What do I want?
- Why do I want it?
- When can I achieve it?
- Where can I achieve it?
- How can I achieve it?
To begin with, what you want, you should list down the things you want to achieve. It could be cutting down extra weight, publishing a book, gaining financial freedom, getting married, improving grades in your studies, name them.
Once you have listed them down, it is time to ask yourself why you want to achieve these goals. Is it to gain popularity, satisfy yourself/feel good, get an award, get out of debt, impact society, etc.
Now that you are sure why you want these things, when will you achieve these goals? This calls for setting a time frame, in this case, a specific time. Set the exact day you want to achieve your goals, whether you want to achieve them in two years, 5 days, 2 weeks, 6 months; it is effective to specify the exact date. This helps you to track your progress.
So what next? Where you do want to achieve these goals? Is it in school, at home, in your hometown, country among many places? Knowing where you want to achieve a goal keeps you motivated and focused. When you see the places where you have achieved your goals creates a certain sense of belonging and pride.
Now determine how you can get what you want. Does is involve putting in extra work, determination, perseverance or patience? The important thing is staying focused on your goal, believing in yourself and having someone to motivate you not forgetting self-motivation because at some point you will need you to pull through your journey to success.
In your journey to success, you have to eye for the medal/end result. Just move progressively, don’t be in a hurry and again don’t be too slow; remember you have a deadline to catch up with. Again don’t push yourself too much, take it one step at a time. You can take a break to celebrate your achievement halfway. After all, you’ve done so well to be there so far. It doesn’t harm to give yourself a pat on the back. But don’t be too excited otherwise you’ll lose it all together. Get back on track and go for the bigger reward.
Once you achieve your goal, you’ll feel so good about yourself. You’ll be smiling all the way. People will begin noticing something different about you and they’ll want to know your secret. Be kind to share, it will double your happiness to see that you have influenced another person to follow into your footstep. What an impact.
Never give up on yourself, people are looking up to you and when they see you walk away from your goal then you’ll have let them down. Why do that to them?
You’re not a quitter. Finish what you began. Why begin something you know you won’t complete? It will be so unfair to yourself. This is what I call lying to yourself, giving yourself false hope when in the first place you knew that goal was unachievable.
This reminds me of another thing about setting goals. I know you’ve heard this a million times but I’ll just list down the aspects of setting your goals in case you’ve forgotten.
Your goal should be:
Does your goal follow the above aspects? If yes, you’re on the right track. If no, then you have to reevaluate it or do away with it because it is not necessary at the moment.
PS: Never ever let anyone, anything nor anywhere hinder you from achieving your dreams. You’re worth your dreams.
